If you are travelling to Germany for UEFA Euro 2024, there are many reasons why you should make Frankfurt your base. (Read More)
The Location
Frankfurt, the venue for England’s second game on 20 June against Denmark, is roughly in the middle of the country and so will make an excellent base for England fans who need to travel to Cologne and Gelsenkirchen for their other two group C matches. From 14th June to 14th July the European Cup is being held in Germany across 10 venues. Frankfurt will host 5 games during the tournament. The final will take place in Berlin.
The closest stadium from Frankfurt is in Cologne, which is only two hours away. The biggest concentration of stadia are in the Ruhr area where three cities, Dortmund , Gelsenkirchen and Düsseldorf are hosting games within a few kilometers of each other. The rest of the games will be spread out across Germany from Munich in the far south to Hamburg in the North and Berlin as the easternmost.
The fan zone
The fan zone is being set up on the banks of the river Main, between the main station and the city centre. There is a big screen, and a floating football pitch, along with the usual food and drink.
Travel and Accommodation
Frankfurt has the largest airport in Germany and is well connected to all other places in Germany by air, rail and bus. Frankfurt is also a cycle-friendly city, so there is no need for a car. Most of the Frankfurt transport network is accessible for wheelchair users.
Frankfurt is located in the "Rhein-Main Gebiet (Rhine-Main area) and is at the centre of a very large and efficient transport network. The stadium, The Frankfurt Arena, is linked to suburban rail line S8, which links Frankfurt to two other large cities in the region, Mainz and Wiesbaden. Accommodation in any of those two cities, as well as settlements along the railway net, or connected by other regional lines can be a good alternative to the expensive city centre of Frankfurt. South of Frankfurt, the large city of Darmstadt, is also on the same fast rail network.
Sustainable Championship 2024
The schedules have been planned so that visitors do not have to fly, but can use train connections to all the games. Every ticketholder can travel for free for 36 hours on the whole rail network. For all other times and connections reduced rail fares are available.
Anyone who travels locally, can also use rental bikes, there are plenty of bike racks near the stadium.
