Orkney Archaeology - The Ness of Brodgar

Updated: May 29

Excavations have been taking place on the Ness of Brodgar site since 2004. The archaeologists have revealed a massive complex of monumental Neolithic buildings dating from the centuries around 3000BC. Many buildings and a ceremonial hall were uncovered. It is one of the very few places in Northern Europe, where one can view a site of such proportions.

In 2024 the dig will be open for one last time to the public for guided tours from June 26 to August 16, more info on their website: www.nessofbrodgar.co.uk/.

The last ever chance to take part in one of these amazing tours is in the summer of 2024, after which the site will be backfilled and be given back to the earth once more.

I would strongly recommend, everyone interested in prehistoric archaeology to go and visit the site this summer.
